Conducting a Peace Jirga in Uruzgan province.

Centre for Conflict and Peace Studies

Recruitment and training of highly qualified and professional Afghans for research purposes; Data collection and profile creation of provinces, districts, and villages to find active political personalities; Daily and weekly collection and analysis of political and security developments for the newly decreed Independent Directorate for Local Governance.

Developing skills and capacities for peace within Afghanistan.

Beijing Juvenile Legal Aid Research Center

Expansion of the volunteer lawyers’ network and provision of legal aid to protect children’s rights; publication of legislative research related to juvenile rights protection; training
for  volunteer lawyers in Western China on handling juvenile cases and providing legal aid for juvenile cases; workshop on experience and information sharing on juvenile rights protection.

Research Center of Social Issues, Institute of Rural Development

Research of land rights and village organizations in conjunction with the William P. Fuller Fellowship in Conflict Resolution.

2008

Xinjiang People’s Mediators Association

Project to strengthen the capacity of village-level people’s mediation committees by developing a core group of highly skilled master trainers, training more than 4,400 mediation committee leaders, developing and producing local language mediation training materials such as Video Compact Discs (VCDs) that can be easily distributed, and establishing precedence and a model for interactive mediation skills training in Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region.

2007

Center for Religious & Cultural Studies, Gadjah Mada University (CSRS UGM)

Production of a twice-monthly talk show discussing civic participation in conflict prevention for broadcast on TVRI Yogyakarta and simultaneously broadcast through Radio Republic Indonesia and its network of 58 radio stations throughout Indonesia.

2009

Enlightenment and Empowerment of Mindanao Network Foundation

Presentation of a paper at the conference, "Diversity in Globalized Society, The Challenge of Globalization for Living Diversity Contributions of Africa and Asia to a Sustainable World," held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

2007

International Center for Islam and Pluralism (ICIP)

Training for 60 santri (students in Islamic schools) on various issues including regional legislation and conflict prevention; Training for select santri in journalistic writing to explore and write about issues of civic participation and good governance.

2008

Peace-Building Forum

Public forum on “Peace-building: Lessons learned from Conflict Management in the Philippines” at the Japan National Press Club, with presentations by The Asia Foundation’s Country Representative for the Philippines and Pacific Island Nations and Regional Director for Conflict and Governance.
