"Assessing Governance Trends in China: Law, Transparency, and Reform"

A discussion on implementing open government information regulations, the provision of legal aid, and the promotion of transparency and fair compensation in the land requisition process in China, featuring The Asia Foundation's country representative in China, and moderated by the director for China Studies at Johns Hopkins SAIS/Asia Foundation Trustee.

Administrative Law Studies Association of the China Law Society

Study tour for a Chinese delegation of legal scholars and officers of the Supreme People’s
Court and the National People’s Congress to the Republic of  Korea (ROK)  to deepen
understanding of the ROK’s experience with state compensation claims.

Administrative Law and Procedure Program

Administrative Law School of Northwest University of Politics and Law; Center for Public Participation Studies and Supports, Peking University; Lanzhou University Law School, Nanjing University of Technology Law School; The Research Foundation of the State University of New York, Georgetown University

China administrative law and procedure program providing support for Chinese and U.S. institutions aimed at strengthening official commitment to and compliance with administrative law and procedure, and empowering citizens to access administrative procedural rights in China; Training for government officials on administrative law and procedure; Domestic study tour and pilots in Gansu Province, Jiangsu Province, and Xi'an municipality to assist local government officials with implementing public participation and open government information mechanisms.

All China Lawyers' Association

Support for pro-bono legal services; training lawyers and paralegal volunteers; assisting
provincial lawyers’ associations in establishing Constitutional Law and Human Rights
Committees; maintaining a public interest law website (www.imlawyer.org); conducting
legislative research on public interest litigation and law; and publicizing the rule of law
in three economically disadvantaged areas in China.

America's Role in Asia

Release of findings and recommendations of companion reports compiled in "America's Role in Asia: Asian and American Views," with public events in Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

America’s Role in Asia—Northeast Asia Workshop

Fifteen experts from China, Japan, Taiwan, Russia, and Korea discussed security, economic, and social issues affecting U.S.-Northeast Asia relations as input to the year-long America’s Role in Asia project.

Develop and distribute educational and training materials to increase labor law awareness
among migrant workers.

Continued support for Chinese expert participation in the annual Congressional conference on China, in which American and Chinese experts meet to discuss key issues in US-China Relations.

Beijing Global Village

Support for preparation and convening of a three-day National Skillshare Workshop on
Chemical Safety and Environmental Health to raise the awareness among Chinese NGOs and the general public of chemical safety and environmental health.

Beijing Home of Rural Migrants Cultural Development Center

Expansion and improvement of training, education, and cultural activities for migrant
workers in Beijing, support for the center’s Young Migrant Workers Performance Troupe to
give performances for migrant workers in the cities of Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Changsha and
Hangzhou.
